Late-Night Bingo Fills Taj Mahal26 April 2004ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "It was 11 p.m. on a Tuesday, and nearly all of the 1,700 seats in the brightly lit ballroom was filled. About 100 others stood near the entrance or sat on the floor, backs propped against the walls. Most were seniors or middle-aged, barely a young face to be seen. "What brought all these folks out in the middle of the night? A Big Band concert? A drawing with a $100,000 top prize? "Nope. It's late-night bingo held every Tuesday at the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort. Admission is free with a slot-club card, and people come in droves for their share of the $5,000 prize pool. The promotion continues until the end of the month. "The Taj Mahal marketing department was looking for a gimmick to get players in the door, and found out no other casino sponsored events late at night, marketing manager Denise Savastano said. The games have been held every Tuesday in March and April, and have been a big hit with customers. "…Players lined up at the ballroom by 9:30 p.m., and by 10:30, the room was half full. Most used crayons provided by the casino to mark their paper bingo cards. A small minority brought their own daubers, small bottles of ink that are the tell-tale sign of a hard-core player. "…Just 35 minutes after the first number was called, it was all over. Players filed out to hit the slot machines or return to their hotel rooms. The light-blue tablecloths were littered with paper bingo cards and crayons for the staff to collect…" |
