Las Vegas Has New NFL Ad Game Plan

LAS VEGAS – As reported by the (California) North County Times: "Despite the fact almost every expert credits betting on NFL games ---- along with national television ---- as one of the reasons for the rise in popularity of the league the past 40 years, the league will have none of it.

"That point was driven home again this month when the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority was denied a chance to place an ad during Sunday's Super Bowl broadcast.

"…This year, the Las Vegas promoters went on the offensive early, with a $1.5 million ad campaign exhorting the virtues of Las Vegas on Super Bowl Sunday rather than being in Houston at Reliant Stadium. The ads started last week on 15 cable networks, and they will continue to run this week.

"….[Rob Dondero, executive vice president R&R Partners, the visitors authority's advertising consultants, says] 'We have legal sports books here, and they want to keep gambling and the NFL and gambling and the Super Bowl separated.'

"…The NFL releases an injury report on each of its teams every Wednesday and Friday, with most news organizations publishing the information. If that information isn't published for gambling purposes, why is it released? The NFL never will answer the question…"
