Las Vegas Continues to Lure California Visitors4 September 2000LAS VEGAS, NEVADA—Sept. 4, 2000 –As reported by The Las Vegas Review-Journal: “Despite the recent legalization of American Indian gambling in California and the dire forecasts that followed, a record 266,000 visitors were expected to come to Las Vegas this weekend, up from last year's 254,000. ”…California's Proposition 1A was approved March 7 and analysts predicted it would greatly affect Nevada's economy. ”But people like Jack Davis, who was visiting Las Vegas for the holiday, said he doesn't like the cash-free slot machines offered at tribal casinos. ”…Terry Jicinsky, manager of marketing for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, said this Labor Day weekend will not be significantly affected as most new tribal casinos are still being constructed. ”Meanwhile, some visitors questioned …said they'd continue coming to Las Vegas. `Indian casinos, they're not much,’ said Fred Bardemeier of San Francisco. `There's no glitz, no glamour. But Las Vegas, this is like a circus. It's so cool.’…” |
