Las Vegas Celebrates Grand Opening of Desert Passage

18 August 2000

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – (Press Release) --Aug. 18, 2000 -- At 7 p.m. PDT last night, Las Vegas celebrated the Grand Opening of DESERT PASSAGE, North America's first ever shopping adventure as enchanting Moroccan rhythms filled the air and thousands of rose petals dropped from the destination's exquisitely hand-painted desert sky.

``The turnout was staggering and the energy was sensational,'' says Lee H. Wagman, president of TrizecHahn Development Corporation, creators of DESERT PASSAGE. ``We couldn't have hoped for a more spectacular event.''

More than 8,000 invited guests joined TrizecHahn officials to herald the opening of the 500,000 square foot DESERT PASSAGE which took place in the Lost City, one of the extraordinary desert lands recreated with compelling authenticity inside the destination.

In addition to exotic artists and performers such as henna body painters, Gnawa musicians, and dancers directly from their homelands of Morocco and India, festivities included an opportunity for guests to be the first to shop and dine in some of the destination's world-class stores and restaurants.

Retailers not only presented an uncommon collection of wares but also provided a rare glimpse of the captivating marketplaces and streetscenes of this fascinating world in their meticulous and unusual store design.

``Fifty-two of our retailers and restaurateurs are new to Vegas,'' boasts Wagman. ``Tonight, for the very first time in Las Vegas, guests were able to experience such renowned establishments as Z Gallerie, Sur La Table, Blue Note Jazz Club from New York and The Anasazi from Santa Fe.''
