Las Vegas Casinos Recovering

7 January 2004

LAS VEGAS – As reported by the Las Vegas Business Press: "Because a review of last year's performance by the gaming and hospitality industry is tantamount to a diagnosis of the city's - if not state's - economic health, then 2003 will best be remembered as a year of both recovery and growth.

"The casino industry continued to slowly recover from the disastrous blow caused by the September 11, 2001 attacks on the U.S., as visitor volumes and gaming receipts slowly crept toward their pre-September 11 levels. Gaming revenues for 2003 in the county reached $6.6 billion by the end of October (the latest available month), up 2.7 percent, or roughly $170 million, from the same period a year prior…"
