Las Vegas Attendance Down for July13 September 2002LAS VEGAS – As reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal: “Fueled by a dramatic drop in convention attendance, Las Vegas visitor volume fell 2.3 percent in July, marking the fifth consecutive month the city reported fewer visitors compared with the same period 12 months prior. “About 2.98 million people came to Las Vegas in July, compared with 3.06 million in July 2001, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority said Wednesday. “The city's visitor count over the first seven months of this year reached 20.67 million, down 2.3 percent compared with Las Vegas' 21.16 million visitors during the same period last year, the authority said. “July convention attendance fell to 155,769, a 25.1 percent dip compared with the previous July's 208,095. Kevin Bagger, senior research analyst for the authority, said that dip could be largely attributed to the loss of an annual gathering hosted by the Shrine of North America. “…Hotel occupancy rates averaged 84.4 percent in July, down 3 percentage points from July 2001. Motels took the largest hit, suffering a 6.8 percent dip in occupancy rates compared with the same period last year. Overall, total room nights occupied fell 2.5 percent to 3.31 million…” |
