Lake Tahoe, Carson Casinos Also Do Well Despite Snow

NEVADA – As reported by the Reno Gazette-Journal: ``The thick, wet blanket of snow that fell ahead of New Year's Day didn't keep Carson City casinos from packing in patrons.

``"It was probably a little subdued, but very busy," said Doug Brown, director of marketing for the Carson City Nugget. "It was quieter than normal. I am not sure if that was the threat of terrorism or the mood or the weather or whatever."

``The threat of terrorism might have spurred cancellations in Las Vegas.

``…The 78 rooms at the Nugget's motor lodge filled for a rate of about $56 a night, he said.

``…Reno-Sparks casinos also did well.

```New Year's Eve was a challenge because we had a full hotel and 1,200 arrivals that day,' Reno Hilton Vice President of Marketing Steve Trounday said.

``…Reno casinos didn't need spillover from Las Vegas cancellations to fill up, he said.

``…Snow can be a mixed blessing for Northern Nevada casinos, depending when it falls and how it affects traffic over Interstate 80 from Northern California…"
