L.A. Poker Classic offering new senior championship

20 December 2010

COMMERCE, California -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Tired of competing against those young internet hotshots in your tournament poker play?

Then Commerce Casino has just the event for you! The first ever LA Poker Classic No Limit Hold'em Senior Championship onWednesday, February 23 at 1 p.m. Only people aged 50 and above will be allowed to compete. Players must show their driver's license to secure a seat in the $545 buy-in event.

Senior events are becoming hugely popular as older players often feel marginalized when playing against a field that can be stacked with young players who have perfected their poker playing hundreds of hands an hour online. The 2010 seniors event at the World Series of Poker attracted more than 3,000 players, roughly half the number of the WSOP Main Event. Players ranged in age from 50 to 92!

"By giving our more mature players an opportunity to compete against others more in keeping with their own mindset, playing style, speed and experience, we create an environment that is exclusive and yet more relaxing," said Tournament Director Matt Savage. "Coupled with the fact that the exclusivity makes for a smaller field, it increases the odds of success for these senior players, who often feel shut out of prize pools. One player will have bragging rights as the LA Poker Classic Senior Champion for the next year, and he'll have a really nice payday."

Commerce Casino, the world's largest poker room, continues to innovate new and exciting events for poker tournament player. The LA Poker Classic No Limit Hold'em Senior Championship is only one of 53 events conducted over 43 days from Jan. 19 to March 3, as part of Commerce's LA Poker Classic, one of the two most prestigious poker series in America each year.

The LAPC Championship and the World Poker Tour Celebrity Invitational are highlights on a schedule that is generating tremendous excitement for Commerce Casino's 2011 L.A. Poker Classic. Buy-ins range from $125 to a heart-pounding $25,100 High Roller, and the tournaments offer $2 million in guarantees. All the action begins with a four-day-start $1 million guaranteed event certain to get players charged up.

Starting time for each event vary, so please check with website for times. The full event schedule and overview for Commerce Casino's L.A. Poker Classic can be found at www.CommerceCasino.com or by calling (323) 721-2100.
