KS Gaming Commission picks Hard Rock Casino

WYANDOTTE COUNTY, Kansas -- As reported by My Fox Kansas City: "A partnership involving Kansas Speedway won a contract Friday to build and manage a state owned casino in Wyandotte County.

"The Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board's decision to pick Kansas Entertainment over two other applicants ties a high-profile attraction in the state's biggest tourist-drawing area to what officials believe will be Kansas' most lucrative casino. The proposed casino would overlook a turn at the racetrack and be known as the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

"...The Speedway had promised to build a road course in its infield and seek a second NASCAR Sprint Cup series race if it got the casino contract. It also said it would host the Camping World RV rally starting in 2010.

"The contractor now must undergo a background check by the state Racing and Gaming Commission, which has the final say on whether the project moves forward.

"...A law enacted last year allows one casino each in Wyandotte, Ford, Sumner and either Crawford or Cherokee counties, with the state receiving at least 22 percent of the revenues..."
