Koreans Lead Online Gaming in Asia14 March 2001KOREA – March 14, 2001 – As reported by NetValue: ``Online gaming is rapidly gaining in popularity in Asia, particularly in Korea, where 65 percent of all Internet users visited a games website in January 2001. ``According to NetValue, Hong Kong has the second highest proportion of online gamers with 39.8 percent, followed by Taiwan with 34.2 percent, Singapore with 29 percent, and China with 20.9 percent. ``The popularity of online gaming in Korea appears to be linked to the high uptake of broadband Internet access. Over half of Korean Internet users have high-speed access through ADSL or cable. Seventy percent of broadband users visit games sites, while only 38 percent of dial-up users do. ``…Most of the online gamers in Asia are students and tend to be male and under the age of 24. Korea is again the exception as women represent 44.7 percent of online gamers there. |
