Kool & The Gang returning to Rivers Casino Pittsburgh

29 June 2021

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Cel-e-brate good times … come on! The band that christened The Event Center stage at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh in March of 2019 is back for Labor Day Weekend 2021.

Kool & The Gang, R&B icons of the ‘70s and ‘80s, return to The Event Center on Saturday, 4 September, at 7 p.m. A previously announced 2020 performance at Rivers was postponed due to the pandemic.

Kool & The Gang, best known for its smash hits "Celebration," "Cherish" and "Jungle Boogie," dominated the R&B scene since officially launching in 1969. Its bulletproof funk-and-jazzy arrangements and smooth sound have earned the group two Grammy Awards, seven American Music Awards, 25 Top Ten R&B hits, 9 Top Ten Pop hits and 31 gold and platinum albums. The band’s drum beats, guitar and signature horn lines lace the tracks of numerous artists including the Beastie Boys, Jay-Z, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Cypress Hill, and P. Diddy.

"Kool & The Gang turns every performance into a celebration," said Shannon Redmond, vice president of marketing at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh. "They played to a sold-out crowd during their last visit, and we expect a similar response for this long-awaited return."

On top of the band’s already-stellar resume, Kool & The Gang has also been inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame and continues to be among the most sampled R&B bands of all time. Their top hit "Celebration" has notably been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

In 2016, the East Coast natives resurfaced on the recording scene and released the single, "Sexy (Where’d You Get Yours)," which rose to No. 15 on the Billboard Adult R&B chart. Kool & The Gang has toured alongside Kid Rock, Dave Matthews Band, Elton John, The Roots and a 50-city tour with the legendary rock band, Van Halen. They continue to perform around the world.
