He finished in first place in the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Bounty event, earning $177,823. This was his first cash of his WSOP career, outlasting a field of 1,130 players to take home his first bracelet. Klostermeier was sharing the final table with players a lot more experience than himself. With zero previous WSOP cashes, and only one year of pro poker under his belt, the win came as a surprise. “I have only played poker professionally for about a year, so to win a bracelet this soon is amazing. This is the only PLO game I have played. I have only played a couple of online tournaments, 25 at the most. PLO is not my main game, I play Hold’em,” Klostermeier said after winning his first ever bracelet. The large field of 1,130 entries resulted in a slight change in the event schedule. The original plan was to play down to a winner after three days of play. However, with 7 players remaining at the end of Day 3, the day came to an end without crowning a winner and the players came back for a fourth day of bounty hunting. Day 3 of the event started at noon with 43 players remaining, including notables as Daniel Negreanu, Jeff Lisandro, and Kevin Eyster. However, the three bracelet winners got eliminated before the event reached its final table just after 9:00 p.m. Klostermeier started the Final table as the chip leader with a stack of almost 7,000,000 in chips. The game plan going into the final day was to play aggressive. “Me and Bryce [Yockey] clashed a couple of times at the final table. He was the one that wanted to win hands against me, they others were folding a lot,” the winner explains, adding that some hands could have gone either way. “I had a nice bluff against Bryce, he announced my hand but ended up folding, if he calls there he is chip leader and that is another situation,” Klostermeier admits. The first player to get eliminated from the final table was Joseph Liberta. He was eliminated just minutes into the final table, earning $12,996 for his ninth place finish. This was Liberta’s fourth final table appearance of the summer. Heng Zhang hit the rail after one hour of final table play, banking $29,987 for a WSOP career-high eighth place finish. The first 20 minutes of Day 4 saw two quick bustouts. Scott Sharpe got eliminated at seventh place ($22,391) quickly followed by New York native Tim Seidensticker at sixth ($29,987). Both players got eliminated by bracelet winner Bryce Yockey, taking home $1,000 for the double bonus bounty. The next player to get eliminated was Jason Stockfish ($40,691), followed by Ryan Lenaghan two minutes later. This was Stockfish’s fifth WSOP cash and second final table appearance of the summer. Lenaghan’s fourth place finish added $55,939 to his $90,351 of total WSOP earnings for the summer. The only player at the final table with a previous bracelet, Bryce Yockey, finished in third place earning $77,893. This was Yockey’s 44th WSOP cash, and fourth final table appearance of the summer. The tournament started on Tuesday July 9, and attracted 1,130 players. The field produced a prizepool of $1,525,500 and the top 170 players made the money.
