Klein Defends Level of Gambling in Canadian Province

ALBERTA, Canada -- As reported by CBC News: "Premier Ralph Klein says he doesn't think there is a gambling problem in the province, despite a report that said Albertans lose more every year than other Canadians.

"'I don't think we have a problem,' he said. ' I go to casinos, I don't see a problem. Charities certainly don't have a problem, they get a lot of their money from casinos.'

"A study released by the Canada West Foundation found that Alberta has the highest number of problem gamblers in the country, and on average lose almost $900 a year, the highest amount in Canada.

"...The Canada West study said the Alberta government makes more from gambling revenues than the other provinces, but spends little on prevention and education..."
