Kentucky's charities hit jackpot

KENTUCKY -- As reported by the Bowling Green Daily News: "Nonprofit organizations hit the jackpot last year with charitable bingo and other games, pumping a net sum of almost $2 million into their coffers, according to the Kentucky Office of Charitable Gaming.

"Data obtained through a public records request shows about $7.5 million was taken in gross receipts that 11 organizations in the area reported last year from bingo games and pull-tab sales.

"...According to the state, payouts to winners are the biggest expense for organizations which allow bingo and pull tabs, along with overhead costs where such events are held, as well as the costs for renting equipment, security and supplies.

"There are some 822 organizations licensed to hold bingo games in Kentucky..."
