Kentucky Unlikely Prospect for Casinos

KENTUCKY – As reported by the Kentucky Post: "Though an Indian tribe is scoping out casino sites in Ohio, Kentucky remains an unlikely prospect.

"No tribes are federally recognized in Kentucky -- a requirement to conduct gaming.

"Tribes based elsewhere in the U.S. but with strong historical ties to Kentucky have said that even though they can apply to state and federal government to reclaim land or put land into trust for casino sites, bringing tribal gaming to the Bluegrass state is not a serious option.

"…Even if a tribe were to enter into a compact with the Kentucky governor to conduct casino-style gambling, federal regulation would limit the tribe to what is legal in Kentucky: pari-mutuel betting at racetracks and the casino-style gaming, like roulette and blackjack, now conducted only by charitable organizations on a limited basis…"
