Kentucky Promotes Horse Industry

KENTUCKY – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: "In order for Kentucky's horse industry to appeal to the masses, state Commerce Secretary Jim Host wants the masses to visit the industry.

"Governor Ernie Fletcher charged Host with promoting the horse industry as an ex officio member of the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority, which Fletcher created on January 6 when abolishing the former Kentucky Racing Commission. Host, who also serves as Fletcher's interim chief spokesperson, said that a part of that plan involves organized tours to Kentucky farms that originate from the Kentucky Horse Park.

"…In addition to promoting the industry to tourists, Host also stressed the importance of promoting the industry to the Legislature. Two goals on his agenda are a complete economic impact study for every state legislator and a repeal of the sales tax on horses purchased in Kentucky…"
