Kentucky Official Open to Casinos

KENTUCKY – As reported by the Lexington Herald-Leader: "Lt. Gov. Steve Pence this morning said his personal position on the expanding gambling differs significantly from Gov. Ernie Fletcher's, leaving the door open to the horse industry's plan to pursue a constitutional amendment legalizing casinos.

"'Personally the governor and I have opposing views of this. I have a different view of gaming...My personal view is I believe every county should have the right to say whether or not they want to bring more gaming to their community.'

"…He stressed that he was not speaking for the administration and reiterated Gov. Ernie Fletcher's position on the topic: 'The governor's view on gaming has not changed since we campaigned together on this issue. And that is: the governor is opposed to expanded gaming and will not support expanded gaming in the commonwealth'...."
