Kentucky Legislator: Gambling's Social Costs Need Addressing12 December 2003LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – As reported by the Associated Press: "The first state-backed look at how Kentuckians gamble shows that more than half of adults have gambled in the last year, and more than 12 percent of them could risk developing severe gambling problems. "The 120-page study by the Kentucky Legislative Research Commission shows that social costs stemming from gambling exist in the state, and they need to be addressed, said state Rep. C.B. Embry, a Morgantown Republican. "…The state's horse-racing industry is preparing again to press for legislation to legalize electronic gambling devices at tracks…" |
