Kentucky Gambling Prospects Uncertain

FRANKFORT, Kentucky – As reported by the Cincinnati Post: "Despite the Argosy Gaming Co.'s decision to expand its Lawrenceburg, Ind. casino, prospects for legalizing gambling in Kentucky this session remains uncertain.

"A number of bills have been filed but a lack of time and an agenda packed with the budget and tax reform have lawmakers busy.

"But Sen. David Boswell, D-Owensboro, said the expansion in Lawrenceburg and severe financial woes of Kentucky should give lawmakers reason to talk about gambling.

"…Bringing casinos and slots to the Bluegrass state has been a topic of debate for nearly a decade in Frankfort.

"Proponents argue it could bring millions of dollars into Kentucky, where money is badly needed for Medicaid, prisons and education.

"…Oponents say gambling is not the answer to Kentucky's problems and would only spawn other ailments like increases in divorce and bankruptcy filings…"
