Kentucky Authority Appoints New Director

KENTUCKY – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: "Jim Gallagher, a 27-year veteran of the horse racing industry who most recently served the New York Racing Association as its vice president of regulatory compliance since March 2002, has accepted the position of executive director of the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority.

"Governor Ernie Fletcher's appointment of Gallagher ends a more than seven-month search to replace Bernie Hettel, who resigned under pressure on January 14 shortly after Fletcher dissolved the Kentucky Racing Commission and replaced it with the authority.

"Jesse Skees had served the authority as interim executive director through his retirement on July 31, and John Nicholson had replaced Skees on an interim basis on August 12. Nicholson, who also serves as executive director of the Kentucky Horse Park, will remain in that role until Gallagher comes to the authority on September 27…"
