KC area casinos see more gains

KANSAS CITY, Missouri -- As reported by The Kansas City Star: "The Kansas City area casino market resumed growing in April — perhaps signaling a rebound in gamblers' confidence, or reflecting the continuing effects of lifting the state's loss limit.

"The four casinos' monthly take grew to $61 million, up 3.4 percent from April 2008. That followed year-over-year declines of 2 percent in March and 0.7 percent in February, which still were good compared with double-digit declines in top markets such as Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

"...Missouri's full-year gambling revenue declined for the first time ever in 2008, but it has been solid since November. That's when voters repealed the state's loss limit, which had capped gamblers' purchases of table game chips and slot machine credits at $500 every two hours.

"The rest of the state, in fact, did even better than the Kansas City market in April. St. Louis' four casinos took in $66.75 million, up 4.8 percent from April 2008, and the four outstate boats' revenues rose from 4.9 percent in St. Joseph to 18.2 percent for the Mark Twain Casino in La Grange in northeast Missouri..."
