Kansas vote results delayed

WEST VIRGINIA -- As reported by the Charleston Gazette: "Folks who support casino-style table games in Kanawha County, and those who oppose them, might have to wait for several weeks — and possibly a lot longer — to know the final outcome of the too-close-to-call referendum Saturday.

"The Kanawha County Commission will consider 586 challenged ballots Friday, enough to overturn the slim 33-vote lead proponents held after the unofficial vote count late Saturday.

"An expected demand for a recount could delay the final results for another week or two, Commission President Kent Carper said Sunday. And possible legal challenges could muddy the waters far longer.

"...Carper said he wouldn't be surprised if someone asks for a recount, no matter which side comes out on top after the canvass Friday.

"...Aside from the 586 provisional or challenged ballots, there are several other issues hanging over the vote, Carper said — allegations of improper signs at some precincts and questions about whether McCormick should have counted 155 early ballots late Saturday that poll workers at three precincts neglected to count..."
