Kansas Tribes Conduct Casino Study

GALENA, Kansas – As reported by the Joplin Globe: "Three American Indian tribes have decided to hire a market research firm to conduct a feasibility study about developing a casino in Cherokee County.

"Whitney Damron, governmental relations counsel to the Kickapoo Tribe and the Sac and Fox Nation, said the tribes made the decision in a meeting last Thursday in Joplin, Mo. Representatives from the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation also participated in the meeting, Damron said.

"He said the tribal officials also checked out potential competition in Oklahoma. They drove through the parking lot at The Stables and went inside Buffalo Run Casino, both in Miami.

"…The three tribes recently announced a preliminary agreement with Kansans for Economic Growth to pursue an American Indian casino in Cherokee County.

"…Vogel has said Kansans for Economic Growth wants to develop a resort, destination casino and hotel in Cherokee County. The proposed hotel would have 250 rooms. The casino would have an 80,000-square-foot gambling floor, including 2,000 slot machines and a wide selection of table games…"
