Kansas tribal casino to open in fall

KANSAS -- As reported by the Kansan: "On the day Wyandotte County residents went to the polls to support increased gambling in the county, an Indian tribe that operated a casino downtown in the past announced more formal plans to re-open.

"The 7th Street Casino, owned and operated by the Wyandotte Nation, is scheduled to be open by "late fall 2007," according to a press release from Marketing Results, Inc., a Nevada-based public relations firm representing the casino.

"The Wyandotte Nation had previously operated a small facility in downtown Kansas City, Kan., but the new casino looks to dwarf the old one. It will be located in the old Shriner's building at the corner of 7th and Ann Avenue, next to Huron Park and across the street from City Hall. The four-story facility will feature a restaurant along with "400 class II games."

"The casino, located on reservation land in KCK, has been a source of controversy in the past. The facility was shut down a few years ago but Wyandotte Nation officials had always hoped to re-open. Now, with at least an informal blessing from the Unified Government, the tribe is continuing the new facility's construction..."
