Kansas track construction halted

KANSAS -- As reported by the Kansas Morning Sun: "Officials at Camptown Greyhound Park north of Frontenac have ceased construction on the facility.

"Kevin Allis, general manager for Camptown, said that the estimated $30 million construction process was stopped Wednesday because of a management contract dispute with the Kansas Lottery.

"In order for Kansas racetracks to operate slot machines — under Senate Bill 66 — each track facilitiator must enter into a contract with the Lottery.

"Allis said that officials with Camptown submitted a contract proposal in June that allowed the track to keep 25 percent of the net profits for facility management and another 15 percent for operational expenses.

"He said, however, the Lottery sent a counter-proposal in November that took away the 15 percent for operational expenses.

"...With the construction shut down, Allis said that the projected opening date is no longer viable..."
