Kansas Senate Close to Gambling Proposal

TOPEKA, Kansas – As reported by the Kansas City Star: "Kansas Senate leaders are close to proposing a gambling plan that would call for destination casinos in Kansas City, Kan., and southeast Kansas.

"The plan also calls for slot machines at pari-mutuel tracks, including a yet-to-be-built track in Dodge City.

"Voter approval would be required at all locations.

"The bill may never surface, however, if leaders are not convinced it will pass.

"…According to an outline of the proposal obtained by The Kansas City Star, the destination casinos would be built in Kansas City, Kan., and in either Crawford or Cherokee county in southeast Kansas.

"Slot machines could be authorized for tracks, including The Woodlands in Kansas City, Kan., and in Wichita and Frontenac.

"The casinos and slot machines would be owned by the state, through the Kansas Lottery Commission. The proposed bill shows a total of 7,000 slot machines for all four pari-mutuel tracks…"
