Kansas Mayor Asks for Support

KANSAS – As reported by the Wichita Business Journal: "Park City Mayor Dee Stuart says she will ask the Wichita City Council and Sedgwick County Commission next week to support a proposed casino in her city.

"She'll ask for support not to benefit Park City, Stuart says, but to provide a 'desperately needed' 2,500 jobs in a region hard hit by Boeing layoffs.

"…The Iowa Tribe's casino project, she says, is hung up on a variety of political hurdles, including the county's fear of offending southcentral Kansas lawmakers, 'the wild idea that Wichita might get a casino built downtown with private money,' and fear of the religious right…"
