Kansas looks at non-tribal casinos

KANSAS – As reported by the Miami County Republic: "The odds on expanding casino gambling in Kansas may be better than in past years -- at least, that's what proponents are hoping.

"They may find out soon. The House Federal and State Affairs Committee has been conducting hearings this week on bills tied to nontribal casino development in Kansas.

"One measure would allow gambling at casinos and racetracks in Wyandotte and Cherokee or Crawford counties and at racetracks in Ford and Sedgwick counties. Similar bills have been proposed in the past, but lawmakers could not agree on the financial details.

"…Included in the proposals would be a weekly loss limit of $500 for gamblers, which some lawmakers say is designed to help sink the plan. Missouri has a $500 loss limit per two-hour session.

"The measures also would set the state's take at 28 percent of the destination casinos' net revenues…"
