Kansas Governor: Casino Proposals Still Need Review

KANSAS – As reported by the Wichita Business Journal: "Not so fast, says Gov. Kathleen Sebelius to calls from a Wichita group for 'immediate action' on a $270 million Native American resort casino in Park City.

"The group, led by former Wichita Mayor Bob Knight, says that the Kansas Legislature's failure Sunday to vote on state-sponsored gaming clears the way for discussions with Sebelius on a Sedgwick County project.

"But the governor says she remains committed to a comprehensive review process, including several steps as yet unaddressed by the local group.

"…However, she remains committed to a 'long list of prerequisites' that must be met before she will exercise her legal authority to begin compact negotiations for any off-reservation casino…"
