Kansas' first state-owned casino begins construction

DODGE CITY, Kansas -- As reported by The Wichita Eagle: "The only state-owned casino to survive the financial turmoil that sidelined three others will break ground in Dodge City today.

"Butler National Corp., based in Olathe, will begin constructing its Boot Hill Casino and Resort on U.S. 50 west of the city's downtown.

"The first phase of the $87.5 million project is due to open in a year with slots and dining. Ultimately, the casino will include 875 slot machines, 20 gaming tables, and a 124-room hotel. The entire complex is scheduled to open in about three years.

"...The casino will be designed to re-create Dodge City's Old West days.

"'Kansas is a history-filled and exciting region of the United States,' Clark Stewart, president and chief executive of Butler National, said in a statement. 'We are all dedicated to creating and providing an exceptional gaming and resort experience to pass on this heritage to our future guests...'"
