Kansas court to hear gambling lawsuit

KANSAS -- As reported by the Topeka Capital-Journal: "The Kansas Supreme Court will hear arguments May 14 on the constitutionality of the state's gambling law enacted last year.

"A Shawnee County District Court judge last week upheld the law that would allow four casinos in the state and slot machines at horse and dog tracks. Attorney General Stephen Six then asked the court to expedite the hearing.

"The law required the attorney general to file a 'friendly' lawsuit to test the constitutionality. Gaming proponents sought the provision to assure potential investors their money would not be wasted on something that would later be determined unlawful.

"At issue in the legal filing is who will own and operate the casinos..."
