Kansas County Approves Casino Vote

KANSAS – As reported by the Wichita Business Journal: "Bob Knight says he's serious about putting a destination casino in Harvey County.

"On Monday, Harvey County commissioners said they want to gauge that seriousness, approving a non-binding mail ballot to assess voter support for a $300 million, 2,500-job destination casino and resort along I-135 near the Sedgwick County line.

"The vote, which will cost Harvey County about $20,000 will take place sometime before the first of the year, Harvey County Commissioner Ken Meier says.

"It's the vote Knight sought and failed to get from Sedgwick County Commissioners, a gesture of county support required by Gov. Kathleen Sebelius before she'll sign off on a casino by the Foxwoods Development Company, which Knight represents.

"…The casino proposal took Meier by surprise, but he says that putting the issue before the public was a simple decision…"
