Kansas Convenience Stores Left Out of Gambling Expansion

TOPEKA, Kansas – As reported by the Convenience Stores News: "Kansas convenience store owners were not opposed to Gov. Kathleen Sebelius' expand gambling plan on principle, as many other senate committee attendees were. Instead, they objected because they were left out of new gaming proposals, reported the Kansas City Star.

"Sebelius' proposal to add slot machines across the state and build up to five destination casinos did not include convenience stores, which already sell lottery tickets and opportunities to bet on Keno games.

"Tom Palace, who heads the state's convenience store association, said it doesn't make sense to exclude the more than 1,800 licensed lottery outlets in the state from operating video lottery terminals, according to the news source…"
