Kansas City council adds casinos to smoking ban proposal10 January 2008KANSAS CITY, Missouri -- As reported by the Kansas City Star: "The fight over a smoking ban for most of Kansas City's bars, restaurants and workplaces took a hazy step forward Wednesday. "The City Council is expected today to consider an April citywide vote on a proposal that calls for outlawing smoking in most enclosed public places. "...But on Wednesday, the council's public safety committee changed the petitioners' proposal. It added casino floors and concourses at the Truman Sports Complex as places where smoking would be specifically prohibited. "The committee also voted to allow smoking in shops with 75 percent of sales in tobacco products. "The petitioners' committee has said it wouldn't accept those amendments. On Wednesday, though, one member said there might be some wriggle room..." |
