Kansas City casino proposal gets support21 September 2007KANSAS -- As reported by the Kansas City Star: "Plans to open a $20 million Indian casino in downtown Kansas City, Kan., by the end of the year received a major endorsement Thursday from Wyandotte County's Unified Government. "In a 9-1 vote, Wyandotte County commissioners approved a casino revenue-sharing agreement with the Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma. Commissioner Mark Mitchell cast the dissenting vote. "The agreement calls for the tribe to reimburse the Unified Government for providing water service, police and fire protection, and other municipal services to the casino. "Gambling would be limited to Class II games — electronic devices that look and play like traditional slot machines but pit players against each other in wagering networks based on bingo odds. But the city agreed to support any tribal effort to win state approval for craps, blackjack and other Las Vegas-style games..." |
