Kansas casino vote in June

COLUMBUS, Kansas – As reported by the Joplin Globe: "In six weeks, Cherokee County, Kansas, voters will go the polls to decide if a state-owned casino and hotel complex will be allowed in the county.

"The Cherokee County Commission on Monday approved a resolution placing the referendum on the June 5 ballot.

"…The state law that would allow a casino and hotel complex to be built in either Cherokee or Crawford County requires that the voters in an area where the complex is proposed approve a referendum.

"…Commissioner Rodney Edmondson said the six-week time frame will give those on both sides of the issue time to voice their opinions and make their cases.

"…Penn National Gaming, teamed with Kansans for Economic Growth, plans to submit a proposal to operate the casino and hotel about a half-mile from the Interstate 44 Baxter Springs exit…"
