Kansas casino vote approved2 May 2007GALENA, Kansas – As reported by the Joplin Globe: "The Galena City Council on Tuesday approved a resolution supporting an election question seeking voter authorization for development of a state-owned casino and hotel complex in Cherokee County. "The council vote was unanimous. "Cherokee County voters will vote June 5 in a referendum on the casino question. "…Penn National Gaming, in partnership with Kansans for Economic Growth, plans to submit a proposal to the state to operate the casino and hotel about a half-mile from the Interstate 44 Baxter Springs exit. A minimum investment of $225 million is required of the casino developer, according to the recently enacted state law…" |
