Kansas Casino Sides Target Lawmakers27 April 2005KANSAS – As reported by the KAKE News: "As lawmakers head back to the state house Wednesday morning, they'll take up one key issue that has state wide attention. Opponents and proponents of separate expanded gaming proposals will be on hand to try and pursued lawmakers. On Tuesday, Doug Lawrence of the Kansas Wins Coalition got a head-start on his lobbying efforts. "…The coalition is pushing for five state run casinos and slot machines at existing race tracks. Lawmakers are also considering a compact with two indian tribes which would put a casino in Wyandotte County. "…But if some conservatives have their way, state-sponsored gambling will never happen. This week a group of pastors will head to Topeka to urge lawmakers to vote against expanded gaming. Pastor Terry Fox says 12-hundred Kansas churches are standing behind him…" |
