Kansas casino proposal deadline changed

KANSAS -- As reported by the Bonner Springs Chieftain: "Developers wanting to build a destination resort casino in Wyandotte County have some extra time to assemble their proposals. The Kansas Lottery Commission has extended the process by 90 days, moving the deadline to Dec. 31 by which Edwardsville, Bonner Springs and Kansas City, Kan., must submit whatever proposals they've chosen -- if any.

"'The additional time benefits everyone,' said Mike Taylor, Unified Government public relations director. "Developers will have more time to polish their plans and the Unified Government will have more time to review the proposals, approve needed planning and zoning, and endorse the preferred plans.'

"...Under the inter-local agreement signed by each city, for any plan to be considered it must be worth at least $300 million, including amenities such as restaurants, hotels and convention centers.

"While each municipality has the say-so over zoning decisions that would affect proposals within its borders, and can endorse one or more of the plans, it is up to the Kansas Lottery Commission to pick the final, winning proposal for the county..."
