Kansas casino license deadline debated

21 June 2007

KANSAS -- As reported by the Wichita Eagle: "Developers who want to build a casino at the Kansas Coliseum will have until July 20 to submit proposals to Sedgwick County.

"Two county commissioners want to give them longer -- until Aug. 8, the day after voters decide if they want a casino.

"To prevent any accusations that the county is interfering with the election, commissioners Dave Unruh and Tom Winters said, it would be better to wait to open the proposals.

"The request for proposals will go out today to casino owners and will be posted on the Sedgwick County Web site. Commissioners have until July 2 to make any changes to the request, including the due date.

"...On the deadline date, the county will announce to the public which developers submitted proposals. The specifics of those plans, however, will be under wraps during negotiations..."
