Kansas casino campaign launched

KANSAS – As reported by the Hutchinson News: "Officials say Reno County could reap casino profits even if a casino is not built inside county lines.

"…A campaign to leave the door ajar for a major casino in south-central Kansas is trying to enlist support from area counties.

"…House Bill 2055, currently in a committee, would allow gambling at casinos and racetracks in Wyandotte, Crawford and Cherokee counties - all on the Kansas-Missouri line - and at racetracks in Sedgwick and Ford counties.

"But it also would establish a five-year moratorium on casinos in any other counties. That has raised concern among pro-casino forces in south-central Kansas.

"Sumner County officials contacted Sedgwick County Commissioners to measure interest and to propose a regional coalition, so south-central Kansas would not be barred by legislation from pursing a destination casino, according to an e-mail from Irene Hart, director of community development for Sedgwick County…"
