Kansas board seeks extension9 July 2008TOPEKA, Kansas -- As reported by the Fort Mill Times: "The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission plans to ask for more time to complete background checks the companies that are selected to manage the four state-owned and -operated casinos, its executive director said Tuesday. "Last year's expanded gambling law gives the commission 10 days to complete background investigations after the four operators have been selected by the seven-member Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board. "...Executive Director Steve Martino said the agency will seek a 60-day extension from Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, who has granted similar requests. No date has been set for making the request. "The background investigations will focus on criminal and financial histories of the top officers and key employees of the companies and the companies themselves. Among automatic disqualifiers would be any felony conviction and crimes involving gambling or moral turpitude..." |
