Kansas All-Star Scholars Fund announces increase in scholarships funds for graduating seniors

14 March 2016

(PRESS RELEASE) -- The Kansas All-Star Scholars Fund, funded entirely by Kansas Star Casino, announced an increase in scholarship money provided to students at schools in the Sumner County and Mulvane school districts.

The Kansas All-Star Scholars Fund is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization created to support education in Sumner County and Mulvane. Since 2011, Kansas Star has provided more than $6 million to the fund, benefiting more than 1,750 graduating seniors, 600 student educators and more than 5,000 K-12 students. Nearly 400 seniors from the Class of 2015 received a scholarship from the All-Star Scholars Fund.

Since the fund’s inception, graduating high school seniors from Sumner County school districts and the Mulvane school district have been awarded a $1,000 scholarship for their post-secondary accredited education. The fund will now award $2,000 to those who graduate in the top 10% of their class. Furthermore, one salutatorian per school will receive $4,000, and one valedictorian per school will receive $5,000.

"We are pleased to increase the post-secondary education scholarship incentive for graduating honor students to invoke a competitive environment for even greater academic excellence,” said Board President Frank Carson.

The online application process for the Sumner County and Mulvane senior class of 2016 runs from March 10 - April 15. Applicants have until Sept. 1 to upload or mail their college class schedule and college acceptance letter. Funds will be mailed directly to the students' choice of school, where they are required to maintain full-time status. The All-Star Fund will also hold scholarship funds for students entering the military for four years, though students must provide documentation proving military service.
