Kalahari Sands Casino Takes Lead in Responsible Gaming

NAMIBIA – As reported by the Namibia Economist: "To people visiting casinos in Namibia, gambling is harmless form of recreation, but for a small minority of the population (estimated internationally as 5% of regular gamblers) excessive gambling may result in damaging, compulsive and addictive behaviour, according to the Kalahari Sands Responsible Gaming Committee.

"To address this issue, the Kalahari Sands Hotel and Casino, in conjunction with the Gaming Board of Namibia, is spearheading the implementation of a Responsible Gaming Programme aimed at assisting people suffering from excessive or compulsive gambling behaviour.

"The first step in the implementation of the programme was the establishment of a Responsible Gaming Committee by the Kalahari Sands Hotel and Casino. According to a press statement, this committee will manage the process of identifying gamers that are at risk, training casino staff members and getting other stakeholders in the gaming industry to join hands…"
