Gaming NewsJudges to decide Northampton casino's fate22 March 2007NORTHAMPTON, England – As reported by the Northampton Chronicle and Echo News: "High Court judges are to decide whether controversial plans to create a fourth casino in Northampton should go ahead. "Gaming firm Gala Casinos already runs two casinos – in Sol Central and Regent Street – and a third £10 million venture is under construction in Commercial Street. Gala was yesterday granted permission to take the Gaming Commission, which grants licences for casino companies, to a judicial review following a decision to allow Beacon Bingo to turn its St James site into a fourth gambling centre. "Gala claims there is not sufficient need in the town for four gaming complexes. "…Judges will have to decide whether magistrates acting for the Gaming Commission should have included the Commercial Street casino, owned by gambling magnate Sol Kerzner, in their decision. Instead, they concluded it was irrelevant because it has remained unopened for six years…" |
