Judge Rules to Keep Kansas City Casino Closed

KANSAS CITY, KANSAS – As reported by the Kansas City Kansan: "The Wyandotte Nation Wednesday struck out in their attempt to operate a casino in downtown Kansas City, Kan.

"At a hearing Wednesday in Topeka, U.S. District Court Judge Julie Robinson denied the tribe's request for a temporary restraining order to prevent the National Indian Gaming Commission and Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline from shutting down the Wyandotte 7th Street Casino.

"The restraining order would have allowed the casino to remain open while the Wyandottes attempted to appeal the NIGC's March 24 ruling. At the time the NIGC declared the tribe did not have the right to operate a casino on trust lands they purchased near Seventh and Ann Avenue because the site is not reservation land…"
