Judge Refuses to Drop Gaming Conspiracy Charges23 June 2004PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island -- As reported by the Associated Press: ``A federal judge on Tuesday denied a motion to dismiss the bribery conspiracy case against top officials at Lincoln Park gaming center and dog track. "In her 14-page decision, U.S. District Judge Mary Lisi rejected the defense lawyers' arguments for dismissal, saying an allegation that a public official knew of the scheme is not required to move forward with the charges in the indictment. ``...The 22-count indictment alleges Lincoln Park's chief executive officer conspired with the chief executive of the park's parent company to bribe the law firm of former House Speaker John Harwood. The government alleges the pair tried to obtain more lottery terminals at Lincoln Park and prevent legislation that would allow the Narragansett Indians to have a casino..." |
