Judge criticizes Oklahoma casino decision

OKLAHOMA -- As reported by the Oklahoman: "A federal judge Wednesday criticized the Interior Department's method of approving land where Indian casinos can be built in Oklahoma.

"The agency's administrative record 'is so lacking in substance that it fails to provide a satisfactory explanation,' U.S. District Judge David Russell wrote. He ordered the Interior Department to re-examine its approval of a gaming compact between the state of Oklahoma and the Chickasaw Nation.

"...The Interior Department held the Chickasaws and other prominent gambling tribes to an easier standard when examining trust land applications, attorney Richard Grellner said. Meanwhile, smaller tribes with little political clout were held to a much tougher legal standard, Grellner claimed..."
