Jockey makes winning return

IRELAND -- As reported by The (British) Times: "Kieren Fallon, who made a winning return to racing in Ireland last week after serving a six-month ban, says the break could add years to his career. His prospects of a more far-reaching comeback may become clearer this week.

"It is almost a year since the jockey was charged, with seven others, with conspiracy to defraud Betfair customers. He has continually protested his innocence. The decision by the Horseracing Regulatory Authority (HRA) not to grant Fallon a licence to ride pending resolution of the case, due to start on September 24, means that he hasn't ridden in the UK since June last year.

"On July 9, Fallon tested positive for a metabolite of cocaine when riding at Chantilly, France, and on November 29, France-Galop suspended him from riding for six months. The former suspension was applicable to the UK and other jurisdictions that chose to follow the HRA's lead, but the latter had the effect of imposing a worldwide ban..."
