Job of Handing Out Racy Fliers Crucial for Some4 February 2004LAS VEGAS -- As reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal: ``Handing out photos of topless women to strangers on the Strip for $4 an hour is not Jorge Amador's ideal job. ``But the native of northwestern Mexico said Tuesday that he has no other employment prospects in Las Vegas. He is an illegal immigrant. ```I would like other work, but I don't have papers,' said Amador, who sends most of his sub-minimum wage earnings home to his family on the Baja California peninsula. ``…Amador and scores of other workers, many of them in the country illegally, spend their days on the Strip or in downtown Las Vegas handing out cards and handbills advertising sensual massages, voluptuous escorts, exotic dancers or other services that are not spelled out on the fliers. ``But their days could be numbered. ``A federal judge is expected to rule later this week on the constitutionality of Clark County's anti-handbill ordinance. While a temporary injunction prevents the county from enforcing the ban, Amador and others are fretting over the possible loss of their jobs…" |
